  • Pages: 212 pages

  • First impression: She’s a mobile tattoo artist who works out of her van. He’s a hulking beast of a man, silent and brooding. Their connection is forged through the sigil being tattooed and the power of the artist.

  • Review Summary: Ultimately, I struggled to enjoy the story because of contradictory plot events, lack of character depth, too much omniscience.

  • Full Review: SPOILERS: A tattoo artist and an ex-enforcer on the run to stop a megalomaniac from gaining their combined power to enslave wolf-kind.

    • The first 30% of the book is how Luna and Riven came to be connected through the sigil tattoo sessions. It's a little confusing. Riven says he doesn't understand how the magic is connecting them, but then he says he didn’t mean for it to happen. Luna mentions she has felt this way before when tattooing others so why was Riven special? And why did he always have an explanation for what's happening when he shouldn’t. If Luna is a blood-witch whose line died long ago and there's barely any record of their dealings or powers...how the hell does Riven know so much?

    • Then there’s the continuous contradictions. Varek doesn’t need the amulet, then he does. Luna and Riven’s bond can’t be broken, but then Luna keeps checking to make sure it’s not broken. Luna is disturbed by the visions and feeling during the tattoo session with Riven, yet she doesn’t say anything. And why is she always tasting copper and pennies?

    • I didn't feel the bond between Riven and Luna. They seemed like strangers. At one point, Luna does try to share more of herself and her background, but they get interrupted.

  • Nit picky thing: Riven’s eyes are always described as “wolf-gold”, but the wolf on the book cover has blue eyes.
